Benefits of Participating in a Sober Support Group, Specifically for Individuals of the LGBTQ Community

Traditional Sober Support Groups

There are a variety of sober support groups offered within the community: AA, NA, CMA, Health Realization, Women for Sobriety; groups specifically for LGBTQ, Young People, Adults, Women, Men, and more… Some are open groups, while others are closed groups.

Some of my clients have reported that they don’t feel comfortable attending the Traditional Sober Support Meetings within the community because they don’t feel like there is a sense of security in the meetings, they have said that people come and go from the meetings and they never know who will or won’t be there from week to week, so it’s hard for them to build trust. They worry that people will not accept them and that they will be judged if they talk about any of their LGBTQ issues or concerns. Many report that they just don’t talk about any of the issues or concerns that they really need to address and consequently, they end up using again.

I Feel A Boundless Freedom

I am not bound by anything, and I can express freedom now.  

I do not have to wait until next week or next month to feel free.

I do not have to wait until challenges are removed from my life.

I can be free now. Today I sense Unerringly that freedom begins within my mind.
